Team 21C. We are putting together a team for the 21st Century Learning Department. Team 21C. We are a group of people who are committed to improving the lives of our students and their families. We hired a Teacher on Special Assignment to assist in the creation of hybrid courses; Bryan Davis, formerly of Mendez Fundamental Intermediate School, started on July 1. We hired a Program Specialist to spearhead the research and testing of new pedagogical approaches and new learning methods; Jessica Salcedo, formerly of Santa Ana High School, started on August 19. We bring different skills to the table, and we have different perspectives. Some of the ways that honor our different perspectives are by regular check-ins at the culmination of routine events like staff meetings, or special events like professional learning opportunities, using a debrief protocol like FIND. FIND is a four level, question-based reflection protocol that allows participants to work their way up from recalling facts, to identifying and sharing emotions, to refining insights. The protocol takes place in a circle, with each person owning a spot on the perimeter, and taking a turn in the sharing, which takes place in a whip-around process.
I value the people outside my department as much as I value the people inside my department, so how can I communicate this and build the organization so that we all work together to improve the lives of students and their families with orchestrated efficiency, passion and dedication? One way, is to call the department, a team, and communicate that we are all working together for the same goal. Team 21C.
